Geodesy for a Resilient Africa Summer School 2026
The Geodesy for a Resilient Africa Summer School will take place in 2026, bringing together early-career researchers, practitioners, and postgraduate students to explore how geodetic and Earth observation approaches can support climate resilience across Africa.
The Summer School is confirmed for 29 June – 3 July 2026 and will be hosted at the African Institute for Mathematical Sciences (AIMS), Limbe, Cameroon.
Overview
This interdisciplinary Summer School focuses on the application of geodesy and Earth system science to address key environmental and societal challenges relevant to the African continent. The programme combines theoretical lectures with practical, hands-on training in data analysis, modelling techniques, and applied case studies.
Key thematic areas include flooding, droughts, sea level rise, water scarcity, urban climate processes, and marine ecosystem sustainability.
Themes
The Summer School will cover the following core themes:
-
Sea level rise, land subsidence, coastal flooding, and tide modelling
-
Extreme terrestrial hydrological events
-
Marine heatwaves, coral bleaching, and sustainable fisheries
-
Climate modelling and urban environmental applications
The programme is designed to promote interdisciplinary exchange and to support the development of applied skills relevant to both research and policy contexts.
