Bridging Hemispheres: From Observation to Transformation in Ocean and Climate Science for Societal Benefit

The Nansen-Tutu Centre is proud to celebrate 15 years of advancing ocean and climate science with a landmark symposium that brings together researchers, practitioners, and policymakers from across the globe. This symposium will spotlight transformative scientific contributions and foster dialogue on how observation-driven research can inform societal resilience in a changing climate.
Call for Abstracts
Researchers are invited to submit abstracts for oral or poster presentations across a range of interdisciplinary themes:
- Ocean Processes and Dynamics: From Bay to Basin Scale
- Atmospheric Processes and Dynamics: From Turbulence to Global Scale
- Air–Sea Interactions and Their Influence on Climate Variability
- Climate Change and Climate Intervention Strategies
- Biogeochemistry and Marine Ecosystem Health
- Societal Impacts of Oceanic and Atmospheric Extreme Events in Africa
- Global Ocean Observation, Monitoring, Networking, and Policy in Africa
- Operational Oceanography in Africa
Accepted abstracts may be developed into extended abstracts for inclusion in the conference proceedings, which will feature contributions from interested authors.

Travel guidance
The conference will take place at the Lord Charles Hotel, located in Somerset West, in the Hottentots Holland area, at the heart of the Cape Winelands. Somerset West is approximately a 30-minute drive from Cape Town along the N2 national road.
Directions to the Lord Charles Hotel:
From N2 and Cape Town International:
- Exit Cape Town International onto N2 freeway towards Somerset West
- Turn off after +/- 25km onto exit 43, labelled R44 (Broadway Boulevard and Stellenbosch)
- Turn left at traffic lights on the bridge towards Stellenbosch
- At the next set of traffic lights will be the Waterstone Village, turn left at the intersection and first right into the hotel entrance.
